Short-Billed Dowitcher - (Limnodromus griseus)

"The short-billed, medium-sized Short-billed Dowitcher is a common and conspicuous migrant alsong the Atlantic, Gulf, and Pacific coasts. Its breeding grounds are restricted to North America, extending nearly from coast to coast boreal and subartic regions of Canada and Alaska."

Spring Peepers

To get us all ready for spring, the Library of Congress Science Reference Section has created a Spring Peeper listing of internet resources that have images of spring peepers, and in many cases also have recordings of their song. Enjoy spring!

ScienceDirect will be down Saturday!

ScienceDirect will be unavailable on Saturday, March 3, 2007 for approximately 9 hours starting at 06:30 AM EST (11:30 GMT). During this time Elsevier will be carrying through a large-scale rebuilding exercise on some of core aspects of the underlying technologies, which will help ensure that the system continues to provide a high level of reliability in the coming years.

About Beer - March Books of the Month

Beer is one of the oldest beverages known to man. The Books of the Month display, located at the front of the Life Sciences Library, focuses on the art, science and history of brewing. It seems appropriate for the month of March, famous for St. Patrick’s Day and green beer.
